Board of Directors - Thomas English Clark, Jr. “Tec”
Tec Clark has been an avid freediver all of his life. Learning
how to snorkel and skin dive as a child, paved the way to aquatic
proficiency as an adult. As a scuba instructor at the University
of Florida’s Academic Diving Program, Tec and his fellow
instructors honed their freediving skills by excelling in the
rigorous NAUI, YMCA and CMAS instructor skills – namely
in skin diving ditch and recoveries. He taught over one thousand
students at the University of Florida how to skin dive and scuba
dive, and without fail, could recite nearly every line of the
movie The Big Blue.
In 1997, Tec was a safety diver for Alejandro Ravello’s
constant-weight freedive attempt off the coast of Miami. In 1998,
Tec became a CMAS (World Underwater Federation) judge for freediving
competitions. He was the deep judge for Mehgan Heaney Grier’s
U.S. national woman’s constant weight record off the Florida
Keys. And, in 1998 Tec was the deep judge for Tanya Streeter’s
fresh water constant weight world record attempt in Central Florida.
In 1997, Tec and Mehgan Heaney Grier co-founded the United States
Freediving Team. In 2002, Tec was Captain of the U.S. Freediving
Team at the Pacific Cup of Freediving in Kona, Hawaii. In 2004,
Tec competed at the first USAA National Freediving Competition
in California.
Tec is a founding member of the United States Apnea Association.
His positions in the diving industry include Managing Director
of the University of Florida Academic Diving Program and National
Director of the YMCA of the USA’s SCUBA Program. Currently,
Tec is an instructor trainer and diving industry consultant living
in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
